In 2021 as I was working on a tight-deadlined project I figured out a learning which helped me immensely to keep away from high Stress levels and remained mentally strong till the end of it!
The Scenario– I was supposed to complete a task which was not defined yet critically important for the organization and trust me the processes were not at all defined too! I was given a task to close 10 sales as we switched from Upselling to Cross-selling and that too within a time frame of month and precisely 30 days! In the roles I was engaged before Sales were not so Upfront and we possibly reached the target as we were just Upselling now, we would have to take referrals, call on the new leads and nevertheless scout for free hand information over internet to reach to the clients….
Cognition – To avoid feeling overwhelmed, I set limits on information, focused on essential details, and took short breaks. When unexpected challenges came up, I learned to be flexible and adapt to change. And first thing I nailed was my TAM & SAM (Targetable Addressable Market and Serviceable Addressable Market) and created a comprehensive list of customers I was supposed to contact.
Process – As a result, I noticed my thoughts were scattered, so I started organizing them. I started defining the project’s goals and broke down complex tasks into smaller parts, tackling them step by step and that was the Eureka moment! I realised it takes 4 Follow ups to close 1 Sale and now I back-calculated time and energy I was supposed to invest and not forgot to have the Buffer Time always in place!
Collaboration – Instead of stressing about every decision, I prioritized quality over quantity. I invested more time in important choices and let others handle less critical decisions. I sought input from colleagues, bringing in different perspectives and making things easier
Outcome or Result – Through this process, I realized the importance of strategic thinking. Clarifying goals, breaking down tasks, and managing information helped me think more efficiently. Finding the right balance between deep and broad thinking proved crucial for staying productive and mentally well in challenging situations
