Therefore, it is important to improve your sounds.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Ways to Improve Your English Pronunciation<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Below, you can find some of the best ways on how to improve your sounds:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Movement of Mouth and Lips<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>When you speak, you move your mouth. <em>How<\/em> you move your mouth affects how you pronounce a word. The first step to correcting your mouth shape is to notice it and pay attention. There are a few ways you can check that your mouth and lips are making the correct shape:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7 <strong>Use a mirror.<\/strong> This is by far the simplest way to tell what your mouth is doing while you talk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0<strong>Put a finger in front of your &#8211; <\/strong>As you speak, don\u2019t move your finger. You should feel your lips moving away from or pushing against your finger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Watch other people and notice the shape their mouth and lips make when they talk. Try following along with your favorite TV show or movie to improve sounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Watch movement of Tongue<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The main difference between <em>rice<\/em> and <em>lice <\/em>is in your tongue. When you speak, you move your tongue to make sounds. You probably didn\u2019t even notice that, since you do it without thinking. To improve your English pronunciation, it\u2019s a good idea to check what your tongue is doing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some difficult sounds for non-native speakers to make are the letters \u201cL\u201d and \u201cR,\u201d and the sound \u201cTH.\u201d Pronouncing them correctly is all in the tongue!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>To make the \u201cL\u201d sound<\/strong>, your tongue should touch the back of your front teeth and the top of your mouth, just behind your teeth. <strong>Try it now:<\/strong> Say the word \u201clight.\u201d Say it a few times. Feel where your tongue is in your mouth. Make sure it touches the top of your mouth.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>To make the \u201cR\u201d sound<\/strong>, your tongue should <em>not<\/em> touch the top of your mouth. Pull your tongue back to the middle of your mouth, near where it naturally rests if you weren\u2019t saying anything. As you say the sound, your lips should be a little rounded. <strong>Try it now:<\/strong> Say the word \u201cright\u201d a few times. You should feel air blowing between your tongue and the top of your mouth as you speak. You should also feel your lips get a little rounder when you make the sound.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Now for the \u201cTH\u201d sound.<\/strong> This one may seem strange if you don\u2019t have a similar sound in your native language. To make this sound, put your tongue between your top and bottom teeth. Your tongue should stick out a little between your teeth, and as you push air out of your mouth, let some air escape between your tongue and teeth\u2014that\u2019s what makes the sound. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Try it now:<\/strong> Say the word \u201cthink.\u201d Repeat it a few times. The word \u201csyllable,\u201d for example, has three syllables: syl-la-ble. Turning words into parts can make them easier to pronounce. Say it slowly and pause after each syllable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Pay attention to intonation and stress<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Good pronunciation is more than just mastering individual sounds. It\u2019s also understanding intonation (the rise and fall of the voice) and stress (some sounds in words and some words in sentences are louder or clearer than others). Read poems, speeches and songs aloud, concentrating on the word stress and intonation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This means some words and sounds are more important than others. You can hear this when you say a word out loud. For example, the word \u201cintroduce\u201d is pronounced with a stress at the end, so it sounds like this: \u201cin-tro-DUCE.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sometimes where you put the stress in a word can change the word\u2019s meaning. Say this word out loud: \u201cpresent.\u201d If you said \u201cPREsent,\u201d you are talking about a noun that means either \u201cright this moment\u201d or \u201ca gift.\u201d If you said \u201cpreSENT,\u201d you are talking about a verb that means \u201cto give or show.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are rules for where the stress goes in each word. Here\u2019s one rule:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00b7 &nbsp; Most two-syllable nouns are stressed on the first syllable, and most two-syllable verbs are stressed on the second syllable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s just like the word \u201cpresent.\u201d Here\u2019s another example: the noun \u201cADDress\u201d is the place where you live, and the verb \u201caddRESS\u201d is to speak to someone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Practice Tongue Twisters<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tongue twisters are poems that can be hard to recite because a lot of the sounds are similar l<\/strong>ike \u201csh\u201d and \u201cch,\u201d \u201ct\u201d and \u201cth\u201d or the short and long \u201ce\u201d sounds.
